Attack on school guards condemned

Speaking for the NASGB, Secretary Thabiso Radebe condemned the incident. Radebe said the association is shocked to hear about the incident, which resulted in the loss of life.

VEREENIGING. – The National Association of School Governing Bodies(NASGB) in the Sedibeng region has condemned the recent attacks on guards working at various schools in the district.

The most recent incident happened at Isizwe Setjhaba Secondary School in Steelpark where a security guard was killed during a robbery at the school.

Speaking for the NASGB, Secretary Thabiso Radebe condemned the incident. Radebe said the association is shocked to hear about the incident, which resulted in the loss of life.

“We would like to pass our heartfelt condolences to the school and the family for the reported loss of life of a male security guard who was working the night shift when criminals attacked him. The ruthless criminals killed him.”

Radebe said they believe that with the help of the community, the SAPS investigation will yield success.

“Last week, a similar incident was reported at Kgutlo Tharo School of Specialization. In both incidents, criminals stole school assets such as laptops, cleaning machines, feeding scheme groceries, and water taps.

“We understand that the perpetrators disarmed the school security alarm system. They also damaged the school palisade.”

The NASGB urges the community to protect these schools as they belong to them.

“We remind the community in the neighborhood that these schools belong to them as they are public facilities paid for by their taxes.

“We plead with the SGB and the Department to beef up the security already in place as part of preparations for school holidays. We discourage our law-abiding citizens from buying these stolen goods.

“Please report any suspicious person selling stolen goods to the nearby police.”
