SHARPEVILLE – Siphiwe Mthombeni (18) was the busiest player on the court for the Sedibeng Basketball Team against West Rand. He was here, there and everywhere in attack and defence. He might be the shortest player on the court but his strength was unbelievable, bulldozing big players.

This Mohloli Secondary School Grade 12 learner was marvellous to watch, although, his coach Tau Takarupiwa would reprimand him often especially if his marker passed through him. Just like in football, he was controlling the middle of the park with distinction. However, always on the receiving end from Takarupiwa who demanded hundred percent from this little maestro.

Sedibeng Ster Sport could tell that Mthombeni was Takarupiwa’s best player on the court taking into consideration how he would shout at him even when he had nothing to do with what happened. He hustles with big and tall opponents and won the battle in the middle of the park playing as point-guard.

He played more like an anchorman even though he scored few goals for his team. He made basketball look easy for those who were watching from the stands. The coach substituted him once, but after a few minutes he was back again on the court as the teams were under heavy pressure. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mthombeni said he enjoyed the position he played. his ambition is to compete at the highest level of basketball.
