Vaal mourns prominent female DJ

Boitumelo was allegedly poisoned and her body dumped just a few kilometres from her home.

SEBOKENG – A dark cloud has fallen over the Vaal Triangle community following the death of a prominent DJ, Boitumelo Manamela popularly known as Lady B.

Boitumelo was allegedly poisoned and her body dumped just a few kilometres from her home.

Boitumelo’s mother, Christina Manamela (55) told Ster North that she last saw her daughter earlier that morning.
“On Saturday (31 August) Boitumelo alerted us that she was going to a gig. As usual, I waited up for her and she returned home around 01: 00 the following morning. She brought home takeaways and told me that she was just going outside to give one of the people she was travelling with a jacket. She took the jacket to the car and when I noticed that she was taking long, I texted her but she did not respond. She had left her bag in the house so I was sure that she would be back.”

Christina said that she got worried when hours passed and her daughter did not return.

“Just after 06:00, police officers came knocking on the door. They told me that they had discovered a lifeless body just a few kilometres from our house. They further said that they were told by bystanders that the body could be that of my daughter.”

According to Christina her daughter showed signs of poisoning.

“I was so relieved when she came back that I didn’t even ask her who she was travelling with. I am devastated. Losing a daughter in this manner is devastating.”

Describing Boitumelo, her mother called her a lover of life, hardworking and someone who looked after those she loved.

“Boitumelo was young and as her family, we had a lot of expectations about her life. We are shattered.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed that an inquest case docket is opened for investigation.

“Boitumelo had foam in her mouth and had no visible injuries. The cause of death is unknown as the case is still under investigation. We urge anyone with information about this case to come forward.”
