Police recover stolen vehicle while patrolling R54

When the police stopped to check, the driver approached their vehicle and asked for directions to Heidelberg.

SEDIBENG.- The Vaal Marina police are investigating a case of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed ammunition after a suspect was arrested on the R54 recently.

It is alleged that the police were patrolling along the R54 and R549 crossing when they noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road. Police spokesperson Constable Tshilidzi de Huis said that when the police stopped to check, the driver approached their vehicle and asked for directions to Heidelberg.

“The police asked for his driver’s licence and he alleged that he does not have it with him. The police asked to search the vehicle and found a box behind the driver’s seat with live rifle rounds and rifle cartridges inside,” said de Huis.

“He did not have a firearm licence and upon further inquiries it was found that the vehicle was stolen. He was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and unlicensed ammunition.”
