Vaal woman conquers Kilimanjaro

"I aspire to assist every child to know who they are and why God created them." Morabe’s message is for young people to know it is never too late.

VEREENIGING. – Vaal’s own Thando Morabe from Three Rivers was at the peak recently after she and seven other women summited Mount Kilimanjaro. Morabe took up an opportunity for her company South32 to be part of the Trek4mandela Expedition, an annual journey to summit Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, under the Imbumba Caring4Girls Foundation.

“The Caring4Girls program is dedicated to eliminating period poverty by providing menstrual support, puberty education, and sanitary towel distribution to adolescent girls, ensuring they can stay in school during their monthly cycle. On Women’s Day 9 August, I was in Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.”

Morabe states that she joined a group of other women from different parts of South Africa. Morabe recalls the hike taking six days of tough physical and mental challenges. We persevered throughout the journey, we stayed focused and determined. Morabe says reaching the summit on National Women’s Day was a special moment for us.

Morabe explains that Mount Kilimanjaro showed her just how powerful she is. It highlighted my mental and physical endurance. “I will never forget the sense of pride I felt at the top of the mountain.”

Morabe is the director of the Sedibeng Pageant. Speaking about her love to empower the youth, she states that her background is a huge contributor.

“I was once a young lady, passionate and very focused on the educational and spiritual aspects because I believe in a well-balanced life.

I aspire to assist every child to know who they are and why God created them. Morabe’s message is for young people to know it is never too late.

“The world has more to give. You should never allow negativity to determine your future, and never allow peers or families to look down on you.”
