Local female football administrator part of the World Cup

Football is not only about eleven players running into the field, it is more than that.

SEDIBENG.- Potso Mohami’s inclusion as part of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup delegates came at the right time as the country celebrates Women’s month.

This Bophelong-born football fanatic will be part of the competition that is scheduled to take place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22. No doubt, Mohami has become a household name in African football representing South Africa in international competitions. She has been all over the world thanks to the former South African Football Association’s (SAFA) president, Dr Molefi Oliphant, who spotted her potential.

Mohami started to work at SAFA through an internship and the rest is history. She has been all over the world representing South Africa. She is one of the upcoming female football administrators who’s destined for a great future – not only in South African, but also in the African continent.

The highlights of her football career include being part of the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee under the leadership of Dr Oliphant. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mohami said she was looking forward to this big showpiece. She said being appointed as part of the delegates will go down as one of the highlights of her career as a football administrator.

“I’m lost for words – to see that someone is really noticing my contribution in African football. I’m looking forward to learn more about football from experienced football administrators. This is the biggest stage in the world and I’m looking forward to contribute to the success of this competition. I have no doubt that this is going to be the best and most memorable Women’s World Cup,” said Mohami.

Dr Oliphant told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he is proud of what Mohami has achieved as a football administrator. He said Mohami grew up in a football family and her father was involved with Bafana Bafana.

“Potso grew up in football, but I never anticipated she would become what she is today. She is a product of football. The truth is that we need more Potso’s.

Football is not only about eleven players running into the field, it is more than that. Football administrators ensure that the playing conditions are the best. They are as important as the eleven players on the field,” said Oliphant.

Oliphant added that football requires perseverance, performance, perspective, personnel, patience and focus.
