EVATON- Pooe ground is the place to be this coming weekend with the Sedibeng Community Games Cup scheduled to take place at this popular venue.
The tournament on 24 and 25 August will see various famous local soccer teams, including the ‘makeshift teams’ battle against each other for the championship. The event is hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in conjunction with the Lesedi, Midvaal, and Sedibeng District Municipalities together with various stakeholders.
This tournament is divided into the various categories including Senior Men, Senior Women and Masters soccer teams as well as netball. Some of the well-known teams that will play in this tournament include, Beke Le Beke FC, Unstoppable FC, Major 1 FC, Swedi Wodwa FC. The teams that will take part in the Masters section are Maji Masters FC, Big Nuz, Batsumi, Kingdom, Vivian, Hlanganani, ST Rumours Masters FC to mention only a few.
The winners in senior men will walk away with R30 000, while the runner-up will pocket R15 000.
The winners in the Masters category will smile all the way to the bank with a cheque of R15 000, while the second place will receive R5 000. In the women’s division, the winner will also receive R15 000 with the runner-up receiving R5 000. The winners in netball will also smile all the way with a cheque of R15 000 and the loser’s finalist will go home with R500.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Nhlanhla Mashishiwane who is one of the tournament’s coordinators said this tournament started last year. Mashishiwane urges the Evaton community to come in numbers to support this initiative.
“We want to make this year’s tournament bigger and better, and your support will be appreciated. The games are held to promote sports in our communities, bringing everyone together to have fun. I have no doubt that this year’s tournament it is going to be a great success,” Mashishiwane said.
