Department to prioritise licensing services to communities

Diale-Tlabela announced that the Sebokeng DLTC project is on the approved procurement plan for 2024/25, with construction set to commence in October 2024.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport plans to prioritise and uplift Townships, Informal Settlements, and Hostels (TISH), through its services expansion programmes aimed at promoting socio-economic development and growth.

This was announced by MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela when delivering the 2024/25 budget speech to the Provincial Legislature.

“We will be expanding smart Driver License Testing Centres (DLTCs) at various township malls to conveniently improve access to licensing services.
These centres are technology driven, cashless and customer centric. These will also contribute to strengthening revenue generation for the Provincial Government. Sixteen additional new facilities will be rolled out by end of the 2024/25 financial year” said Diale-Tlabela.

She revealed that Phase 1A of the project included pilot sites in Atteridgeville, Soweto, Mohlakeng and Mamelodi. Phase 1B will see a rollout of additional nine sites in Tshepiso Crossing in Sharpeville, Soshanguve Crossing, Moloto, Orange Farm, Palm Springs and Lenasia by the end of the financial year.

“These centres are designed as hubs of licensing services, offering a comprehensive range of solutions, including vehicle license renewals, driving license applications and more. They are also equipped with advanced technology and staffed by experienced and dedicated professionals, poised to deliver exceptional service.”
