Sedibeng residents out in numbers to access Phelophepa Healthcare Trains

The health department encourages community members to take advantage of the services provided by the Phelophepa trains to check their health status.

VEREENIGING – Sedibeng residents have come out in numbers to access services from the Phelophepa Health Train currently stationed at the Vereeniging train station.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Health and Transnet.

The Phelophepa Health Trains popularly known as the ‘Trains of Hope’ are fully equipped with clinics for eye care, dental care, general health, psychology and pharmaceutical services.

Transnet’s ‘clinic-on wheels’ provides convenient healthcare accessibility to local communities, townships, informal settlements and hostels.

The health department encourages community members to take advantage of the services provided by the Phelophepa trains to check their health status.

According to the department spokesperson the trains also have a registered pharmacy that provides up to schedule four medication to patients.

“The services of the train are free of charge. However, some services such as prescription glasses and medication cost as little as little as R5 to R30 and nothing more.”

Residents are advised to bring their clinic cards and child immunisation records for reference.

The trains will be stationed at Vereeniging Station from Monday, August 12 to Friday August 23, from 7.30 to 16:00.
