“I really enjoy each and every moment working with these bunch of boys and girls."

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Norman Dlomo doesn’t need an introduction in South African Athletics.

Sedibeng Ster Sport caught up with this legendary athlete who is now dedicating his time and energy to develop upcoming runners. To date, Dlomo is one of the athletes who put Sedibeng on the world map. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Dlomo said development was something that was always close to his heart. Three years ago, he started Dimathi Athletics Club with the main aim to develop upcoming athletes.

“I really enjoy each and every moment working with these bunch of boys and girls. It is better to start them at this young age to lay a solid foundation for our country. I have no doubt that most of them will become household names in South Africa. You can see the potential is there and the only things that they need is guidance and proper development. This is a commitment I made to myself to plough back into the community by being involved in the development,” said Dlomo.

He challenges other former athletes to also be involved in the development of youngsters to produce another Norman Dlomo of this world. To date, Dlomo, represented South Africa at international level. Dlomo finished 10th at the 2005 World Half Marathon Championships held in Canada. He also competed in the 2007 World Marathon, however, didn’t finish the race in Japan. Last but not least he was part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Dlomo retired from athletics in 2015.

In an exclusive interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport, Dlomo said athletics changed his life and he was able to travel the world because of this sport.
