Five arrested after foiled robbery at the Vaal Mall

“The owner pressed the panic button as one of the suspects took out a gun and robbed them.”

VANDERBIJLPARK – Five suspects were arrested after a failed robbery that took place at the Vaal Mall on Monday afternoon, around 12:15.

Three men and two women who robbed Ravats, a jewelry store in the shopping centre, were apprehended in the parking area by car guards and Fidelity security personnel. The South African Police Service (SAPS) quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the suspects.  According to Machiel Kroezen, head of security at the Vaal Mall, the owner of Ravats suspected trouble when two women entered the store followed by three more men moments later.

“The owner pressed the panic button as one of the suspects took out a gun and robbed them,” Kroezen confirmed.

The five suspects then fled, but were apprehended in the parking area and were later arrested by the police.According to Kroezen, all the stolen items have been recovered.
