Another ‘resilient one’ from the streets of the Vaal

"A lot shall be expected from young black intelligence.”

SEDIBENG – ‘Resilience’ seems to be the key word for 21-year-old local artist, Nhlanhla Bulwana from Evaton, commonly known as Captain DosKii.

The gifted lyricist recently announced the coming of his YouTube hip-hop show ‘Backstroke Sundays’ set to premier soon, every Sunday. Captain DosKii is a low-key artist who has participated and performed a couple of times on national television on shows such as Daily Thetha on SABC 1. Locally his single, Sophisticated, hit the top five of the homegrown artists at local radio station, Thetha FM.

The song was at number one for three consecutive weeks.

Captain DosKii was recently nominated for the best Hip-Hop artist category in Mzansi Arts & media Awards (MAMA). He told Sedibeng Ster that he “miraculously” got recognised by an Emtee Records signee (Lolli Native). About the music industry Captain DosKii said:

“The industry is a spare key to success, that’s why I wake up every day to my hand job to maintain my financial resolutions.”

With ‘Backstroke Sundays’ he plans to showcase his creativity as well as local talent.

“People from Vaal barely get opportunities or platforms. I am bringing this production out free on mobile apps (only data bundles will be needed). A lot shall be expected from young black intelligence.”
