SEBOKENG. – The Sebokeng SAPS Social Crime Prevention and Victim Friendly Facility (VFF) belatedly commemorated the 67 Minutes of Mandela Day at the Boipoloko Disability Day Care Centre in Zone 13 Sebokeng on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said the different stakeholders that were in attendance included the FCS, CPF, GTW, YCPD, Siyabangena and Indibano.
“The purpose of this celebration was to spend 67 minutes in honour of the late President Nelson Mandela, under the theme Combating poverty and inequality is in our hands,” Mokhachane said.
The day was dedicated to disadvantaged children living with disabilities.
“Twenty-two children living with disabilities were given gifts such as water bottles, sanitary towels, disposable nappies, cosmetics and bags. But more than anything they were shown love by officers who spent time with them,” Mokhachane said.
The caregivers were also educated on how to report cases on behalf of the children living with disabilities.
“He further advised the caregivers to care and love them (the children) but, most importantly, to protect them. The children were happy to spend the day with police officers and other stakeholders,” Mokhachane concluded.
