S’khuluma no Lethabo Mokoena (12)

He is one of the most gifted youngsters who has the ability to play in more than two positions.

SHARPEVILLE.- Lethabo Mokoena (12) is leading by example as the captain of NWU Vaal FC u/13 where he is one of the most gifted youngsters who has the ability to play in more than two positions.

Mokoena can play either as a right-back, attacking midfielder and also as a defender. Despite his team’s 2-0 defeat to Remember Sports Academy (RESA) in the Gauteng Development League (RESA) last week Saturday, he was instrumental at the back, playing as the right back. This Tsoelopele Primary School grade 7 learner’s future looks great if his performance against RESA is anything to go by.

He was the busiest player in the field, from attack and defense. NWU Vaal FC Head of Development, Tebello Kheswa said Mokoena is an intelligent player with the ability to read the game well.

“He is the kind of those players that you can play him in any position and play as if he owns it. He is such a typical of kind of modern players who have the ability to specialise in more than one position. I have no doubt that football will reward him because of his positive attitude and what I like most about him is that he is coachable. He is eager to learns that’s what separates him from the rest,” said Kheswa.

He had a great game to sum it all and this is what he had to say to ‘S’khuluma no’ after the game.

Q: Which position do you enjoy most because your coach told me that you can play in more than two positions?

A: It doesn’t matter for me which position the coach puts me in, and I will play as if it is my own. I can play any position in the field, obviously except as a goalkeeper.

Q: How do you feel after your team suffered a 2-0 defeat to RESA despite playing so well?

A: It is part of the game and we must win our next game against Panorama Academy. I have confidence that we are going to collect three points in our next game. We have been working hard at training as a team.

Q: Where do you want to see yourself, or what do you want to achieve as a player?

A: Obvious, I want to play in the professional league and also play for national teams.
