VANDERBIJLPARK – Donovan Rieger was hit by a car on July 17 at around 18:35 at the intersection of Barrage Road and Louis Trichardt Boulevard.
The cameras that Fanie de Jongh installed at the intersection captured the incident.
The footage was published with the permission of Fanie De Jongh and Johnny de Sousa The video clearly shows how Rieger waits for the traffic light to turn green before he starts to cross.
Seconds later, a car sped across the intersection and hit Rieger. The car sped away and Rieger was lying in the road.
It is sad to see how many other cars passed him before someone finally stopped and contacted emergency services.
Rieger was transported to Sebokeng Hospital where he died due to his injuries the following evening.
A family member, Johnny de Sousa, is pleading with anyone who saw the accident to come forward.
Fanie de Jongh, well-known businessman in the Vaal, also appealed to the driver of the blue Volkswagen Reef to hand himself over to the police.
According to De Sousa, the family cannot make funeral arrangements yet, as they are still waiting for the police for further investigation.
