Vaal City Marathon is almost here
Vaal City Marathon is the brainchild of Dr Molefi Oliphant in conjunction with Athletics Vaal Triangle.
VANDERBIJLPARK. – It is that exciting time of the year when athletes prepare for the 2024 Vaal City Marathon.
This annual marathon, sponsored by Rand Water, is scheduled to take place at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on September 15. Vaal City Marathon is the brainchild of Dr Molefi Oliphant in conjunction with Athletics Vaal Triangle. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Dr Oliphant, who is also the Lifetime President of the South African Football Association (SAFA) said they expect a big number of participants this year.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport, preparations for the race is underway.
Dr Oliphant said the race attracted more than 4000 athletes last year and this year the number is expected to double. Vaal City Marathon is one of the biggest sporting events to take place in the Sedibeng region. Athletes from all over the continent come together to compete against each other in different categories during this event. Former Banyana Banyana player, Rose ‘Pona’ Jijane is one of the notable names that will be taking part in this race. She was
the winner in the women’s section of the ArcelorMittal Athletics Club.
