“Prevention is better than a cure”

On day two, it was all about sexual reproductive health, understanding safe sex, preventing and controlling HIV, family planning and types of contraceptives.

SHARPEVILLE – The youth in the Vaal Triangle should know their worth by saying no to gender-based violence (GBV), no to HIV/AIDS and no to unplanned pregnancy. This is the message that LifeLine Vaal is sending to the youth.

LifeLine, and several other stakeholders, hosted a three-day event from 9 to 11 July at the Tshepiso Library. The youth was educated about GBV, HIV/AIDS and unplanned pregnancy. Day one was all about ‘no means no’, safe spaces, GBV prevention and response, and boundary settings. They were also taught self-defense skills that they can use when they feel that their lives are in danger.

On the last day there was a financial literacy class that educated the youth about the importance of budgets and savings. They were offered PREP, family planning, types of contraceptives and they were tested for HIV. They also received attendance certificates and sanitary towels on their last day.
