Former Chiefs star, Katsande’s soccer school team visits Vaal

"I really enjoy myself working these youngsters and they remind me of when I was their age,”

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Former Kaizer Chiefs star Wilard Katsande visited Vaal with his soccer school programme on Saturday.

Katsande’s soccer school team played a series of friendly matches against his former teammate, Abia Nale’s academy at Shakespeare Stadium on Saturday. This visit was part of Katsande’s soccer schools tour in Gauteng during the school holidays. It was down to memory lane when these two former Amakhosi stars met on Saturday, reflecting back when they were still playing together.

It was football throughout the day with the day’s program started with the u/13 game, follow by the u/15 and the main game of the day was the u/17. It was a great day with the youngsters having the opportunity to rub shoulders with these former soccer greats. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Kantsande said it was such a great feeling to re-unite with his former teammate. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he is encouraged to see one of his former teammates also being involved in the development of football.

“I’m happy to see one of my former teammates doing a great job, developing young talent in his area. Most of us when we retire from football, we don’t go back to our community to be involved with development. We want to coach at the top flight football and neglect football development. I salute Abia and other former professional players who are involved in the development of football in this country. Look at how these youngsters are excited to see us because they used to see us only on television.” he said.

Katsande challenges other former professional players to be involved in the development of football in their community. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it is necessary for ex-professional players to get involved in the development of football in their respective community. Nale also echoed Katsande’s sentiments that not all ex-professional players will coaching in top flight football.

“We must understand that not all of us will coach in PSL and some of us must go back to our community and contribute to the development of our football. I really enjoy myself working these youngsters and they remind me of when I was their age,” said Nale.
