Midvaal accounts to stakeholders during SOMA

Teixiera gave a status report on the progress that the administration has made since taking office in 2021.

DE DEUR. – “I am not a gambling man, but I would be hard pressed to bet against the continued performance (of the Midvaal Local Municipality), with the political leadership and administrative executive leading the way.”
These were the words of Midvaal’s Executive Mayor, Alderman Peter Teixeira in wrapping up his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA), delivered at Balmoral Estates in De Deur on Thursday 27 June. The SOMA is a critical aspect of local governance and allows municipalities like Midvaal to be transparent and accountable to their residents and stakeholders across the board.
Teixiera gave a status report on the progress that the administration has made since taking office in 2021.
During this term, Midvaal received its tenth consecutive clean audit and was rated the most financially sustainable municipality for the third consecutive year by Ratings Afrika.
“This means Midvaal can account for every cent of the public money, and that we budget for progress and development of our area with the interest of improving service delivery,” Teixeira said.
He added that Council has approved a R1.9 billion 2024/2025 MTREF budget which prioritises the enhancement of service delivery through investment in infrastructure development, upgrades, maintenance, and repairs.
In wrapping up his SOMA, Teixeira said: “We want to take Midvaal to the next level, creating a conducive environment for investment, protecting jobs, promoting livelihoods and creating prosperity for everyone who calls Midvaal their home.”
