Makhanya determined to defend his title

“I have no doubt that the two youngsters are going to make us proud and come home with medals."

BOIPATONG.- Mpho Makhanya (19) is determined to defend his title when he will be competing at the South African (SA) Boxing National Championships scheduled to take place in Durban from July 3-6.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport before his departure to Durban on Monday, Makhanya said he is going there to defend his title that he won four times in a row. This is a remarkable achievement for Makhanya who is following in the footsteps of the local legendary boxers. He will represent Gauteng in this SA Boxing Championship Tournament. He is confident that he will be defending his title, come Saturday. Makhanya was in the company of Morena Tsotetsi who is part of Gauteng Boxing’s Technical Team that will be in Durban for this championship tournament.

“I’m going there to defend my title and I’m ready and looking forward to bring home a gold medal. I’m well prepared because I trained very hard. I’m going there to make Sedibeng proud as I will be representing my region and Gauteng Province. I’m going with one thing in my mind, to defend my title. I want to make a name for myself to win this title five times in a row to make history,” said Makhanya, who is from Royal Boxing Club.

Another boxer from Sedibeng who is part of Gauteng’s Boxing Team who will compete in this tournament is Pule Motsei from Rus-ter-Vaal Boxing Club.
Thanduxolo Madikizela from the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Sports Department wishes these two boxers all the best. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the ELM Sports Department is behind the two boxers and knows that they will make Sedibeng proud.

“I have no doubt that the two youngsters are going to make us proud and come home with medals. It is not by mistake or fluke that they are part of the Gauteng team. We wish them the best of luck and we can’t wait to welcome them back home on Saturday with medals,” said Madikizela.
