SHARPEVILLE.- Phelandaba came to a standstill when the two supported teams, Perfect Academy and Boipatong FC battled it out in the Winter Top 16 Soccer Tournament at the packed James ground in Sharpeville on Sunday.

It was the mother of all the battles with local soccer fans packing the venue to capacity to watch this mouth-watering final.

This is one final that will go down as one of the best ‘kasi’ football finals with both teams displaying high tempo football. As always in the cup finals there must be a winner and, in this case, Perfect Academy was too perfect to be crowned the champions. Academy came from a goal down to beat Boipatong FC 2-1.

It was a game of two halves with Boipatong FC dominating the first stanza and Perfect Academy coming alive in second half. Both teams kept the spectators on the edge of their seats every time when they were on attack. It was talent galore with both teams having some exciting players at their disposal. Some of the notable names included former Golden Arrows midfielder Bonakele Thwana, Lebohang Lesako, Nicolas Motloung, Biano Ntsala and Maggiya Soso among others.

Whatever, Perfect Academy Coach Sechaba Mofokeng told his charges at the half time worked as a charm as they came out as a completely different team. Mofokeng made few changes bringing in the veteran striker Soso. Academy scored an equaliser from a set-piece, courtesy of Mega Moeti. This was before Soso scored the winning goal with 10 minutes remaining. Academy went home with a R30 000 cheque while the Boipatoing FC received R10 000 for being the losing finalist.
