So what’s next?

Sedibeng might find itself without a top flight football team, come next season.

SEDIBENG.- By the time you read this, it would be already confirmed whether Vaal will have a representative in the ABC Motsepe League or not.

As things stand, it looks like it is another season without a team in the ABC Motsepe League against in the new season. For Young Pirates FC who are representing Sedibeng at the Gauteng Inter-Regional Play-Offs for promotion to ABC Motsepe, it seems to be mission impossible. The found itself in a must win situation in their last Play-offs fixture on Saturday as they were second last from the bottom on the Play-offs log standings.

Zakes’ Sports Corner made a bold prediction not long ago, that Sedibeng might find itself without a top flight football team, come next season.

For example, the two teams that used our facilities for their Motsepe Foundation Championship home games have been relegated to the lower division. Platinum City Rovers and Marumo Gallants were the two teams that consistently played their top flight football matches at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark last season. Ironically the two teams won’t come back after Rovers was relegated to lower league while Marumo Gallants are said to have bought Moroka Swallows’ status.

If this is true, then Gallants won’t play their games here at Isak Steyl Stadium.

So, this means the chances for Sedibeng soccer fans to watch top flight football right on their door steps are zero. With Young Pirates FC’s chance to gain promotion to ABC Motsepe League it is even worse. The good news is that, Sekhukhune United might still play their DSTV Diski Challenge (DDC) matches again here in Sedibeng, at the Isak Steyl Stadium in the new season.

The club had been playing their DDC home matches here in Sedibeng last season.

However, if they change their mind, there will be no top flight football in Sedibeng, to say the least. It seems as if the future of Sedibeng football is those ‘kasi’ soccer tournament which attract more support compared to some of the PSL clubs.

So what is next for Sedibeng seeing that we might find ourselves without a top flight football in case Sekhukhune United decides to relocate and play their DDC games elsewhere?
