Duku Duku Super16 Champions

Izingwenya FC went home smiling all the way with a cheque of R20 000, a big trophy and a sheep.

BOPHELONG.- Thabo Rakhale’s make-shift team, Izingwenya FC was crowned the 3rd Annual Duku Duku Super16 Soccer Tournament champions.

This mouth-watering final was decided on penalties with Rakhale’s side beating All Stars FC 4-2 on penalties at France dusty ground in Muvhango on Saturday. This was after both sides were locked in 1-all draw after full time. Bophelong and Muvhango came to a standstill with young and old packing the venue to capacity to watch ‘kasi’ football. Former Orlando Pirates darling Rakhale, otherwise, known as “Jomo” was  the center of attraction.

The local soccer fans still idolise this skillful midfielder from Sebokeng, and he never disappointed every time he was on the ball. However, All Stars FC were the first to break the deadlock in the first, much to the delight of the supporters who came in big numbers. It was a great advert of kasi footbal. This is the kind of football that ‘kasi’ football is well know for, “freedom of expression, fans who packed the venue went home entertained.

The game went to second half with Stars FC leading 1-0. However, Izingwenya FC came in the second half like house on fire, attacking in all angles in search of the equalising goal. Their hard work paid off when they found an equaliser. At this stage, it was game on, with both teams cancelling each other in counterattack. Izingwenya FC created clear cut scoring chances in the last minutes of the game, and they could have wrapped the game in full time, but their strikers failed to convert those chance into goals.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the delighted champion coach, Rudzani Mudau said it was a great game of football for the soccer fans. Izingwenya FC went home smiling all the way with a cheque of R20 000, a big trophy and a sheep.
