Shack fire claims life of child (12)

The mother and her three children were sleeping inside the shack when the fire broke out.

MEYERTON. – A 12-year-old child was killed and her mother sustained burn wounds in a shack fire in Sicelo.

According to Constable Tlaleng Moloi, a spokesperson for Meyerton SAPS, the police were called out the scene in Thohoyandou Street in Sicelo on 15 June.

“Upon arrival at the scene the police found that shack that had burned down with the lifeless burnt body of the child,” Tlaleng told Ster North.

According to information gathered, the mother and her three children were sleeping inside the shack when they were awoken by the fire.

Moloi says one child was killed and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

The mother sustained burn wounds. Two of the three children are unharmed and did not sustain any burn wounds.

The mother was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and an inquest docket was opened.

The case is under investigation.

The police have requested anyone who might have information that can help the police in their investigation to come forward.
