Vaal High crowned Sports Against Crime Champions

"They came back strongly and as they say, 'the rest is history', because we are the champions."

VANDERBIJPARK.- Vaal High School were crowned Sports Against Crime Games Champions.

This was after they came from behind to beat the defending champions Suncrest High School 25-22 in a high tempo final at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday. These Sports Against Crime Games were organised by the Vanderbijpark SAPS under the leadership of Sergeant Mpho Hlasa in conjunction with Community Police Forum (CPF).

The game went to interval with Suncrest High School leading, an exciting and fast flowing game to watch.

However, Vaal High School came back in second half like a house on fire, because whatever Coach Dimakatso Malefane said to her players in the half-time break, worked as a charm as her players were all over their opponents from the start of the second half scoring much needed goals. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after this exciting netball final, the delighted Malefane said she believed in her team.

“At half-time I told them to relax, breath in and out because I could tell they were nervous. I don’t blame them because were playing against the defending champions of this tournament. They gave us a good game and I have no doubt that everyone enjoyed this game. I’m really proud of these girls because of their come back spirit. They never dropped their heads despite being behind. They came back strongly and as they say, ‘the rest is history’, because we are the champions,” said the jubilant Malefane.

The loosing coach, Ronald Melato congratulated Vaal High School for being the champions. The Sports Against Crime Games also included soccer.
