Elections have come and are gone, whats next?

It is not a secret that the sporting facilities in our communities leave much to desired.

SEDIBENG.- The elections have come and are gone and now the ball is the court of the political parties who have been voted into power.

Zakes’ Sports Corner wishes it can reveal which political party it voted for but as they say “My vote is my secret”. I hope you understand!

Much was said and written prior to the elections. You ask yourself, what this has to do with sports?

It has everything to do with it, particularly with the development of our sports and athletes. In fact, your vote means a better future for the development of sports and athletes especially at municipality level. It is not a secret that the sporting facilities in our communities leave much to desired, with some of the sporting facilities having become “white elephants” to say the least. For those who are not aware, we are 30 years into democracy but there is nothing to show for it.

Zakes’ Sports Corner wants to believe that things will change especially when it comes to the sporting facilities in Sedibeng. For years now, the development of sports in this region has suffered because of the lack of proper sports facilities. Zakes’ Sports Corner is under the impression that the sports people made the right decision when they cast their votes, or the development of our sport will remain the same for the next 5 years or so.

There are those sports facilities that need to be upgraded such as the Zone 7 and Zone 11 Stadium. It is the same case with Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14, Sebokeng. This multi-sporting facility is no longer the same with the soccer playing fields looking horrible. There is no way our sports can grow playing under such conditions. Our athlete deserve much better sporting facilities to compete against the best in the world like it was the case in the past.

This region used to compete against the best in the world with some individual athletes representing South Africa in the international competitions such as the Olympics Games while others plied their trade abroad. I believe, there is a serious need to revive community sporting facilities if we are serious to compete against the best in the world.

The ball is in your court!
