Meyerton accident claims lives of three children
Three children lost their lives in this tragic accident.
MEYERTON. – The Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) confirmed on Wednesday morning (May 29) that three children lost their lives in the tragic accident that took place on Tuesday afternoon in Pierneef Boulevard in Kookrus.
Two transit vehicles, a minibus taxi that transported children and a sedan were involved in the accident.
Apart from the deaths, ten people were also injured.
According to the municipality, employees of the security company, the driver of the sedan and several children are among the injured.
The accident scene was a hive of activity yesterday when helicopters and ambulances came to collect the injured people from the scene and transported them to various hospitals.
Pierneef Boulevard was cordoned off and residents were asked to use alternative routes. The street has since been reopened to traffic.
“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the families who have lost loved ones in this tragic event. We also wish a speedy and full recovery for all the injured,” said rdh. Peter Teixeira, mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality said in a statement.
Teixeira was at the scene of the accident yesterday with members of his mayoral committee and councilors from the Midvaal Local Municipality.
According to Midvaal, the police are investigating the case to determine exactly how the accident happened.
“Further details will be announced as soon as they are available,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.
