ELM promises to clean up

SEDIBENG.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has said that to address waste collection backlogs the municipality has acquired an additional twelve compactor trucks.

On Monday the Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Environmental Management & Planning Jonas Radebe conducted an inspection of additional waste plant and equipment intended to ramp up household and business waste collection at the ELm head offices in Vanderbijlpark.

Additional fifteen (15) tippers, six (6) skip loaders and three (3) machines will accelerate the cleaning of illegal dumps and revitalization of mini dumps across Emfuleni.

In a statement, ELM Mayoral spokesperson, Mphikeleli Msibi said that the municipality has built the capacity to collect waste weekly including in the townships. The transfer stations at Sonlandpark, Roshnee, Arconpark, and Sebokeng are open effectively from Monday,13 May to receive waste from the residents.

“The municipality is committing to address any waste collection dispute within the reasonable time of less than a week of reporting to address service delivery backlogs. I urge all residents of Emfuleni not to hesitate to report any form of illegal dumping of waste.” said the Executive Mayor. He added that the ELM will take all reasonable to ensure that waste management receives an adequate budget to sustain quality services on waste. This will include the acquisition of new landfill sites and transfer stations.
