I am going to vote: Nhlapo

Improving service delivery, especially in Evaton, is crucial.

EVATON.- Sedibeng Ster surveyed elderly people to determine their voting intentions for
the upcoming May 29 elections.

Betty Nhlapo, aged 74, openly shared with the newspaper that she plans to vote for the ruling party. In an
exclusive interview with Sedibeng Ster at her home on Dona Road in Evaton, Nhlapo expressed her unwavering faith in the African National Congress (ANC) despite the challenges the party faces. She emphasised that she has no intention of voting for any other party besides the ANC.

To illustrate her loyalty, Nhlapo retrieved her ANC membership card from her bedroom during the interview.
She reminisced about historical events with Sedibeng Ster, including the Zone 7 Massacre and her attendance at Chris Hani’s funeral.

Nhlapo stated: “My vote is not a secret; I have been a loyal member of this party for years. I don’t see myself voting for another party because the ANC is my home. I’m happy here because this is the only party that fought for our freedom.”

She further commented on the challenges facing the ANC, particularly poor service delivery. Nhlapo believes that improving service delivery, especially in Evaton, is crucial. She highlighted the lack of development in the area, where many people still live in shacks and mud houses, emphasising the need for more jobs for
young people.

Nhlapo also mentioned the Evaton Renewal Project (ERP) intended to upgrade Evaton, which unfortunately collapsed due to allegations of misappropriation of funds. She stressed that there is still much work to be done in Evaton.
