Sedibeng to host referees workshop

"We want to ensure each region has a minimum of 10 female officials included on the list of 35."

VEREENIGING.- Sedibeng will host a referees workshop at Rand Water in Vereeniging on May 12.

This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by former PSL referee Victor Hlungwane. All the local football association referees are expected to attend this much-anticipated workshop. Hlungwane said this workshop will be conducted by SAFA Provincial Referees Instructors.

Hlungwane told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this workshop aims to recruit young referees for development leagues in Gauteng that will referee both local football associations league matches and the Gauteng Development League.

“We invite all the referees from the LFA level to come in numbers because this is the opportunity for them to launch their career in refereeing. The main aim is to recruit more women referees in our league because we feel that there is a shortage of women referees in Gauteng. We are looking for match officials between the ages of 12 to 25. Look, we want to ensure each region has a minimum of 10 female officials included on the list of 35. The list must include those that are already officiating in the Gauteng Development League and the new ones,” said Hlungwane.

There will be referee workshops throughout Gauteng to formalise and educate the Gauteng Development League match officials’ panel. Hlungwane added that the purpose of this exercise is to identify, formalise and develop the officials that are officiating in provincial programs.

Hlungwane said this will enable the province to provide further development programs to the identified officials and prepare them for promotion to the high-level leagues.
