Solar battery burns house down

"It is advisable to switch off every electrical appliance, solar batteries, candle, or any other thing that may cause fire when everyone is gone for work or school."

VAAL MARINA. – A solar battery is suspected to have been a cause of a fire that ravaged a house in Vaal Marina on Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, Constable Tshilidzi De Huis said that at about 12:25 police received a call from Mamello that one of the houses was burning and they rushed to the scene.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that no one deliberately started the fire. The owner of the house told us that he suspected that the cause of the fire was an explosion caused by a solar battery that was inside the house,” De Huise said.

She added that everything in the house burned down.

“It is advisable to switch off every electrical appliance, solar batteries, candle, or any other thing that may cause fire when everyone is gone for work or school. Fortunately, the kids and everyone else were not in the house during the incident so everyone is safe with no injuries,” De Huis ended.
