Feeding scheme alleviating hunger

The scheme’s mission is to cater to the elderly, impoverished school learners, the unemployed, homeless individuals, and those grappling with substance abuse.

VEREENIGING. – With unemployment rates soaring in the Leeuhof community and families enduring days without food, the Phela O Phedise (P.O.P.) Feeding Scheme, a recently established nonprofit organisation (NPO), is committed to alleviating hunger among the needy.
The scheme’s mission is to cater to the elderly, impoverished school learners, the unemployed, homeless individuals, and those grappling with substance abuse. Its primary objective is to provide sustenance to as many underprivileged individuals as possible, with a broader vision of extending its reach beyond the Vaal region. “The unemployment rate in our community is alarmingly high. Families are going hungry for days on end. People come from distant places in search of employment, only to find themselves destitute on the streets
without food or shelter. Additionally, some children fall into substance abuse due to various circumstances. What’s crucial to understand is that they are integral members of our community, and it’s our responsibility to support them,” explains Elizabeth Thanjekwayo of the Phela O Phedise Feeding Scheme. The feeding scheme earnestly appeals to individuals, companies, firms, and businesses to extend
a helping hand and contribute towards assisting the less fortunate. Furthermore, the organisation plans to engage with schools to offer motivational sessions and provide essential services such as school uniforms, sanitary pads, and toiletries. Recently, the feeding scheme distributed food parcels with love to the community. “Here in Leeuhof, we are a multiracial community co-existing peacefully without any form of discrimination,” adds Thanjekwayo, expressing gratitude to the Leeuhof community and Ward Councillor, Cllr. Prudence Hlanyane, for their unwavering support. The feeding scheme comprises Lyllian Mathafeng (founder), Peter Miya (treasurer), Neville Thanjekwayo (vice
treasurer), Mosidi Thanjekwayo, and Neo Mofokeng (additional member). For those interested in contributing or learning more, please contact Lyllian Mathafeng at 072 949 1806, Elizabeth Thanjekwa at 079 296 8717, or Peter Miya at 079 147 8441.
