Sedibeng ANCWL hosts inaugural Easter Netball Tournament

The tournament featured four groups, mixed teams, male teams, senior teams, and u/19 teams.

SEBOKENG.- The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) hosted the first-ever Inaugural Easter Netball Tournament at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14, Sebokeng on Easter Monday.

The venue was packed to capacity with local netball teams competing against each other including the ANCWL netball team. The ANCWL Regional Secretary, Disebo Tlebere who was the coach of the ANCWL team on the day said the theme of the tournament was “Uniting for the future.”

She hailed the tournament as a great success.

“Young people in Sedibeng especially young women are hungry for tournaments of this nature within their community. While netball is a sport open to all genders, it predominantly attracts female players and supporters, making it influential for women.

“Look, by launching this tournament, the ANCWL is catering to a section of our community that is often overlooked when annual community sports are planned and delivered. The aim is to promote unity within communities through sports. Again, recognising the transformative power of sports and its ability to drive change, the ANCWL believes that supporting such initiatives can lead to positive changes in communities,” she said.

Tlebere further stated that: “When young people are gainfully engaged, they will less likely fall to social ills such as alcohol and drug abuse.”

The tournament featured four groups, mixed teams, male teams, senior teams, and u/19 teams.

The ANCWL encourages the communities to actively participate in and support this tournament with the hope of making it an annual Easter tradition.
