Parties approach NHM for support in upcoming elections

“We extend our well wishes to all political parties participating in the 2024 election campaign and express our hope for a peaceful and constructive electoral process.”

SEDIBENG. – As the date of the national elections approaches, the New Horizon Movement (NHM) has revealed that several political parties have approached its president, Bishop Vincent Jones, seeking support for their different political campaigns.

Though NHM’s card, Jones is currently a Member of the Mayoral Committee of Finance in the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) he is also a former MMC in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

Following his appointment to the SDM, NHM spokesperson, Mpho Khang, said that Jones’ appointment had followed months of extensive discussions between NHM and the ruling ANC. He added that while there was no formal coalition agreement in place, both parties were committed to working together to reach an agreement that prioritises good governance, service delivery, and proper financial management.

About the recent approach from different political parties for support in their campaigns, Khang said that the Board of Directors of NHM has resolved that NHM will maintain a non-political stance and will not be supporting any political party in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

“We uphold the principles of neutrality, granting our members and supporters the freedom to vote for the political party of their choice. This decision aligns with NHM’s core mission of operating as a non-partisan movement, with a primary focus on enhancing local government functionality,” Khang said.

He added that their aim remains centered on fostering unity among residents and advocating for the professionalisation of municipalities while combatting corruption and cadre deployment.

“We extend our well wishes to all political parties participating in the 2024 election campaign and express our hope for a peaceful and constructive electoral process,” Khang ended.
