Kganya Ya Sechaba hosts Teenage Pregnancy Program

This program follows the increasing number of young girls who are impregnated by older men in the community.

SEBOKENG.- Kganya Ya Sechaba, a non-profit organisation (NPO) hosted a ‘Teenage Pregnancy Program’ at Tshepo Themba Secondary School in Sebokeng recently.

This program follows the increasing number of young girls who are impregnated by older men in the community.  Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Tumelo Morake hailed this program as a great success attended by leaders in the community and from the Social Development, Ward 38 Councillor, and Eatonside Health  to mention but few.

Morake told Sedibeng Ster that his organisation wants to bring this program to schools by working together with the Department of Education to address the situation of pregnancy among school girls. He said this can also caused by poverty in society.

“Look, sometimes it can be caused by social conditions where you find that both parents are unemployed. Again, a broken family can also promote pregnancy because both father and mother are separated.  These are some of the challenges the young girls are faced with in our community where a learner gets pregnant in grade 8.”

“This program was also meant to address all these issues and how best we can help to stop this, with young girls getting pregnant in a big number in our society. We want to thank all the stakeholders who honoured our invitation and made this event successful. We had a fruitful discussion, and from here we will engage the Department of Education.”
