Midvaal spends R16 million to upgrade aged pipeline

Repairs of 10km of aged pipeline are underway and should be completed within two months.

The Midvaal Local Municipality says it has has initiated a project exceeding R16 million to replace the ageing bulk water pipeline infrastructure.

The municipality intends to replace at least 10,2 kilometres of aged water pipelines in Ward 3, Rothdene.

According to a statement from the office of the executive mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality, Peter Teixeira, this undertaking is geared towards curbing non-revenue water losses, improving revenue generation, and bolstering the overall efficiency of our water management systems.

“The municipality incurs millions in losses due to non-revenue water. Therefore, we are putting effort into reducing water losses,” the office of the mayor announced.

The project is scheduled for completion within eight weeks and has provided opportunities to five local Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and created 48 job opportunities.

Midvaal Local Municipality says it is dedicated to investing in the maintenance and upgrades of our water infrastructure to ensure continued service excellence.

The project should take about 2 months to complete.
