Mother dies after strong winds

“I am still traumatised as I witnessed everything on that day because they are my neighbours."

BOIPATONG.- The mother who was rushed to hospital after suffering injuries when a big tree fell on her shack in Boipatong following recent strong winds has passed away.

Sedibeng Ster carried the story Heavy Winds Hospitalise Mother and Child, dated 18 January – 24 January. Mpai Lapise (37) and her child were rushed to hospital following the incident, unfortunately, only her son survived.

When Sedibeng Ster visited the family today, Thursday, Halala Mpenyana who is related to the deceased said Lapise died on the same day she was admitted to the hospital. She leaves behind a 19-month-old baby boy and her husband, Ntlou Lapise.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mpenyane said Lapise was like a sister to him because his mother and Lapise were sisters.

Lapise’s neighbour, Tumisane Sebofi who witnessed the horrific incident which resulted in the death of Lapise said when the incident happened Lapise’s husband was at work and he went to his workplace to break the sad news that his wife and child had been rushed to the hospital. Little did he know that later she would be dead.

“I am still traumatised as I witnessed everything on that day because they are my neighbours. Her husband was at work when this happened and I had to go to his work to ask him to come home. Something just happened,” said Sebofi.

Lapise will be buried in Lesotho on February 2.
