MEYERTON. – The Rotary Club of Riverside is back on track, ready to bring cyclists and their families the energy and excitement of the 2024 Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge. This is the fourth biggest road race in South Africa, receiving entries country wide as well as from Europe and Africa. The race is fast and flat, with some hill elevation giving great seeding times. This 27th annual Fast One event will start and finish at Midvaal Raceway in Meyerton. Cyclists have two distance options, being 105 km and 50 km. Participants may use any traditional, tandem bicycle or E-bike. The organisers will investigate a separate start for E-bikes. Recumbent bicycles are also allowed. Categories include Elite, Juniors, Vets and Open.

As main sponsor the Midvaal Municipality will have the opportunity to proudly show thousands of cyclists and supporters from all over the country its well-known hospitality, showcasing Midvaal as a desirable tourist and investors’ destination when the Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, January 28.
Mayor Alderman Peter Teixeira and his team are hard at work and hands on – undoubtedly one of the reasons Midvaal remains the best performing municipality in Gauteng, with the best track record of good governance and providing excellent service delivery.

Cut off times for the 105 km and 50 km will be posted on the Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge Facebook page. Should cyclists miss the cut off times, sweep vehicles will pick them and their bicycles up. The bicycles will be tagged and transported safely back on trailers to the venue.
For safety reasons, no person younger than 16 may enter the 105 km race. They may enter the 50 km routes provided that written consent is given by a parent or guardian. The age restriction for the 50 km route is 10 years.

Wearing a helmet is compulsory and all cyclists must have a CSA licence. A day licence can be bought when entering for the race. Participants that do not have a timing chip may enter but will not get an official timing result by Peaktiming.
The Rotary Club aims to make it a day of fun and achievement. A beer garden will be set up with ample seating for spectators, and local vendors will supply food and refreshments. Cycle gear will be for sale and minor repairs will be done.

HamNet Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Network makes use of The Fast One as a practice event for emergencies. They put tracking devices on their ambulance and sweeper vehicles to decide on the best service and fastest action in case of emergency.
Entries for the 2024 Midvaal Fast One are open until January 22. No entries will be allowed on the day of the race. Visit www.peaktiming.co.za for more information. Entry links can also be found on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/thefastone.org or the website https://www.thefastone.org/.
