Accused handed 10-year sentences

A case of murder was registered at the Evaton SAPS and handed to the investigating officer for further investigation.

EVATON. – Four suspects, ranging in age from 33 to 40 were recently handed 10-year sentences after they were found guilty of murder in Evaton.
It is said that on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at about 09:19, the four suspects committed murder in Evaton West.
This is after the deceased was assaulted with different weapons and later taken to hospital for medical treatment. The Evaton police received a complaint of murder at Sebokeng Hospital and police were informed that at about 06:14 the ambulance members came in with an adult man who had been assaulted.
A case of murder was registered at the Evaton SAPS and handed to the investigating officer for further investigation.
Police Spokesperson, Constable Thulisile Msibi said that Sergeant Bheki Mkhonza went out and committed himself to bringing the culprits to book and managed to secure a successful conviction.
“Through the investigations done by the investigating officer, it was alleged that the deceased was suspected of burning a shack in the Evaton West area. The deceased was assaulted by the community members with different weapons leading to serious bodily harm. The man was unknown at that stage however through the investigation that was conducted by the investigating officer, he was later identified.”
The suspects were identified and were arrested, charged with a case of murder.
“All four suspects appeared at the Sebokeng Magistrate court and pleaded guilty for the crime, and they were found guilty of culpable homicide. All four accused were given a ten years direct imprisonment sentence, which is suspended for five years,” Msibi said.
