The rolling hills of the Midvaal will form the backdrop to Cycling South Africa’s National Road, Criterium and Time Trial Championships in February next year.

The National Championships are scheduled to take place in the Midvaal Local Muncipality from February 1 to 4, 2024.

While the routes are not yet finalised, the road race route is anticipated to feature a compelling combination of the John Bosco Loop, Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve with a straight approach to the finish line.

Cycling South Africa announced on Wednesday December 6, that representatives from the sporting organisation had met with key stakeholders from the Midvaal Local Municipality, including the Head of Traffic and a panel of department heads to deliberate on the event.

Although details are not conclusively settled, preliminary approval has been granted and a formal presentation is scheduled for 8 January 2024, during which Cycling SA will present the event to the same panel for final consideration.

“After a thorough route inspection was conducted with the Head of Tourism at Suikerbosrand, the team is pleased to report their approval for incorporating Suikerbosrand into most of the championship routes. While currently a positive indication, formal approval from Regional Parks Management is still pending,” Cycling SA said.

Various routes and distances will also be finalised pending approval following the presentation on the 8th of January next year.

The Criterium is set to unfold in the heart of Meyerton, promising a spectator-friendly experience.
