20 years prison sentence for rapist

SASOLBURG .- A man was sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment by the Sasolburg Regional Court for raping a 27-year-old woman.

Kamohelo Chaka, 28, was sentenced in the Sasolburg Regional Court.

On Saturday, October 2022 at about 02:00 the victim and her friend left a tarvern in Amelia on foot.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani reports that along the way the duo met with an African male who was unknown to the victim, however was known to her friend.

“The trio then continued with their journey, and after a while the victim’s friend arrived at her destination.

Kamohelo then offered to escort the victim to her aunt’s place in Harry Gwala. When approaching the victim’s destination Kamohelo threatened the victim and forcefully undressed and raped the 27-year-old.”

Kamohelo then took the victim to a second location which was nearby her aunt’s house, where he raped her behind the toilet.”

The perpetrator took the victim to his place in Walter Sisulu and continued to sexually assault her. At about 07:00 the suspect escorted the victim back to her place and he promised to compensate the victim.”

Rani said upon the duo’s arrival at the victim’s home, the victim told Kamohelo to wait outside as she fetches the key at her neighbour’s house.

“She explained everything to her neighbours and was kept safe whilst her neighbour called Kamohelo inside the house, and detained the suspect and then called the police to effect an arrest.”
