Looking at the life of netball veteran, Dudu Msane

“There is a need to recruit female netball umpires because as things stand, we don’t have enough."

SEDIBENG.- With Women’s Month coming to an end, Sedibeng Ster Sport looks at the life of one of the veteran Sports Administrators, Dudu Msane (69), who despite her age is still passionate about the development of netball in Sedibeng.

In an exclusive interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport, this former Sedibeng Netball Association President said that her wish before she retires is to see more netball umpires. Msane told Sedibeng Ster Sport that much needs to be done for netball in this region, and one of the things she wants to see happen is Sedibeng having its own netball facilities.

She further said that just like football, netball must have its own facilities that are separated from other sporting codes.

“There is a need to recruit female netball umpires because as things stand, we don’t have enough. This is our biggest challenge in netball, a lack of female umpires, and we must start to recruit them now. But I am happy that recently a lot of young girls have joined netball teams because of the Netball World Cup we hosted in Cape Town. This shows the positive impact the tournament has made in the development of netball with many young girls joining the community netball clubs all over Sedibeng,” said Msane.

Msane has been involved in netball for most of her life starting as a player and then becoming an administrator. She also owns a netball club known as Sharpeville Avalon Netball Club which is one of the most successful netball clubs in Sedibeng.
