Fire destroys house in Three Rivers

A house in Poplar Street, Three Rivers was reduced to rubble shortly before midnight on Thursday evening (6 July 2023) when a fire broke out there.

VEREENIGING. – Mohammed Khan, son of the deceased owner of the house, says he was standing in the garden last night smoking when he noticed flames inside the house through the window.

Khan said: “When I walked in the kitchen door there was smoke everywhere.

“I tried to kick down doors to see where the smoke was coming from.

“I kicked down one door, but the flames were just too big and it was just too hot.”

According to Khan, he later sought shelter in a garage on the property after hearing explosions.

Khan lives in a room in the house that belonged to his late parents and rents out the rest of the rooms.

There was a couple, as well as a mother and her three children staying in the house.

The mother and one of her children were not at home when the fire started.

All the residents were able to escape from the flaming inferno in time.

No one was seriously injured, but Khan says he lost almost everything in the fire.

Midvaal fire brigade helped bring the fire under control.
