VEREENIGING.- The R82 near Rus-ter-vaal and Roshnee is closed due to an electricity protest.
Furious residents blocked the road on Thursday evening and continue to burn tyres this morning.
According to Residents, for the past two weeks their electricity does not stay on after load-shedding. It comes back and goes off after a few minutes.
Protesters say they will not move until the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor Sipho Radebe addresses them regarding the problem.
“We need the mayor to come and tell us when the problem will be fixed. The municipality can’t just tell us that there is an overload and not do anything about it.”
Motorists are urged to use an alternative roads. This is an unfolding story and an update will be provided in due course.
