Late delivery of dry ice delays power restoration

Following power outages in parts of Vanderbijlpark’s CW Area, power restoration has been delayed.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) said on account of the late delivery of the dry ice, work to restore power supply for CW Area consumers supplied from the Ford and Marconi Streets 11 kV substation has been delayed.

Cleaning of the panels and busbar pressure testing started on Tuesday afternoon and both substations reportedly failed the tests.

In an update from ELM the municipality said:

At the Marconi Substation technicians discovered than an 11 kV bushing had exploded. A new four-way Ring Main Unit (RMU) will be installed on Wednesday.

At the Ford Substation all 11 kV panels failed pressure tests. “All faulty busbars will be removed and cleaned; pressure testing will follow soon after.”

ELM said provided that everything goes accordingly, the substations will be energized.
