Lesotho nationals arrested for illegal firearms and ammunition

The police arrested two Lesotho nationals and confiscated illegal firearms and ammunition following a robbery in Vereeniging.

VEREENIGING. – According to a media statement issued on behalf of the Sedibeng District Commissioner, Major General Zodwa Molefe, SAPS members Sergeant Moloi and Sergeant Khumalo followed up on information of a house robbery at a smallholding in Uitvlugt Road in the Vereeniging area at around noon on Thursday 29 September 2022.

“On arrival at the said location, the members received information from the complainant (a domestic worker) that the suspects pointed a firearm at her and demanded her cell phone and key to the safe.

“The suspects then took a riffle and ran away towards the Vaal River on foot,” says the statement issued by Molefe.

According to the police, the officers followed the suspects’ trail and apprehended them along the banks of the Vaal River.

Two illegal firearms, a rifle, a 9mm pistol and the victim’s cell phone were found in their possession.

The suspects were arrested at the scene for house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects are expected to appear in the local Magistrate Court facing charges of house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
