Gauteng police nab more than 1,500 suspects during weekend anti-crime ops

More than 1 500 suspects were arrested for various crimes over the weekend.

This weekend, the integrated multi-disciplinary operation saw a score of more than 1 500 suspects being arrested for various crimes.

The Deputy Provincial Management Advisory and acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major Girly Mbele took the lead at the operation held in Mamelodi East in Tshwane District where ten liquor outlets were closed down for contravening the Liquor Act.

About 480 suspect were arrested, several vehicles with tampered engine numbers were impounded and unlicensed firearms were also seized.

In Ekurhuleni District, more than 460 suspects were arrested for crimes including possession of suspected stolen property, possession and dealing in drugs, murder, rape and possession of unlicensed licensed firearms amongst others.

Meanwhile West Rand District arrested more than 170 suspects which included wanted suspects who were arrested during the operation of tracing of wanted suspects by the detectives.

In Johannesburg District, the police arrested approximately 450 suspects for different crimes including undocumented persons.

Some of the suspects were released after paying admission of guilt fines and the others are expected to appear before different Magistrates’ Court in Gauteng Province.
