IN PICS: Spring fever hits Vaal streets

VAAL - Spring day without a bucket of water is not officially a spring day.

And this age-old tradition still lives on even in the times of the sophisticated ama-2000.

As today, September the 1st marks an official Spring day, scores of young people came out in their numbers to mark the debut of the day.

Twenty litre buckets were filled with water together with other containers to splash by passers with water.

Several roads were a no go area for pedestrians as many feared to be splashed.

Joyful loud laughter and falling backers and splashing water were order of the day.

Speaking to Ster, Karabo Mokhele (20) said spring water splashes are a never dying tradition.

“We grew up seeing our sisters and brothers practising this culture, we can’t just let it die,” she said.

Thando Zikode (18) said “this is important to mark the debut of Spring. From this day forth, we know it’s spring. No water means Spring hasn’t started,”.
