Executive mayor thanks communities for patience through power outages

VEREENIGING.- The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Cllr. Sipho Radebe has thanked the communities of Three Rivers and Risiville for their patience throughout the period of a power outage.

The power outage that lasted for almost four days was due to a 10 MVA power transformer that caught fire at Three Rivers Substation on Thursday (18 August 2022) morning.

In the spirit of good governance, affected residents pulled all the stops by joining hands with our electricity teams to ensure power supply in the area is restored as speedily as possible.

“I wish to thank the two affected communities for every little contribution made towards restoring electricity supply, be it offerings of food and refreshments to actual labour throughout the repairs. The act is a clear demonstration that indeed, Working Together We Can Do More”, Radebe said.

The Executive Mayor further passed his gratitude to Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) electricity team for their support and participation in ensuring that power is restored ahead of time. Radebe extended his appreciation to ELM management and staff from electrical department for their hard work during the course of the burdensome four days of the power outage.

Executive Mayor Sipho Radebe urged all residents of Emfuleni to protect their infrastructure from growing attack by criminal elements.

“Over the past years, the municipality has been experiencing concerning rise in the theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure. This has led to an unreliable power supply network that plunges both residential and business consumers into darkness time after time. I am therefore calling upon all electricity users in Emfuleni to be our eyes and ears on the ground, all theft and vandalism must be reported to the municipality,” Radebe concluded.
