Suspected humans remains found torched at cemetery

Police were called by security guards at the cemetery after seeing the car.

EVATON – A vehicle was discovered at Evaton Cemetery on Monday morning with suspected human remains in it.

Police were called by security guards at the cemetery after seeing the car.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found would-be human bones.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sebokeng police spokesman Captain Teboho Lephoto said an inquest docket has been opened and investigations to determine the bones are underway.

“In the early hours of Monday, security guards at the cemetery alerted our members that there is a burnt vehicle in their premises. When our members arrived at the scene, they found what looked like human remains inside the burnt car and took them to a government mortuary. Our forensic experts will determine if the remains are that of a human,” he said.

Lephoto appealed to the community who have missing people with vehicles to report to Evaton police station.

“We want to appeal to the community that if there is somebody missing with a car, their family members can go to Evaton cop shop and check if the person is not their relative. We also appeal to anyone who might have witnessed the crime to report it to the police,” he said.
